Meet The Team

Exciting news, we are on TV again!
Watch us on TV catch up on MY5. We are on the TV channel 5 Action on the programme "Trucking Heavy”

(Series 3, episode 11 &  episode 18 )  (Series 2, episodes 1 & 3)

We are delighted to introduce our team who will professionally support the transport of your boat. We are a small family run business, which currently employs four people. Geoff, our MD, started transporting boats 35 years ago using a 7.5tonne vehicle and various trailers. Nowadays although we have “bigger trucks and trailers”, we are determined not to grow into a large 24/7 style corporation.

The four of us (Geoff, Gillie, John and  Joe), always aim to be professional in our dealings with customers, and the work that we undertake. Whatever it is we are doing, it will be done to a high standard, and we like to think we have a good rapport with the Sales Guys, and the Marina staff, as well.

Being a small Company, we hope you can appreciate both the friendliness and good communication we afford to all customers. We believe the success of our business can largely be attributed to our honest dealings with everyone! We won’t do “cash deals”, and we will often go the extra mile to ensure, you the client, gets the best value for money.

Geoff Houghton

My main role at Boat Transport Ltd, is to communicate with the customers. I will normally answer the phone, your questions, and provide you with a written quotation. I arrange the diary as well, and after years on the road, these days am based in the office - with the occasional day escorting one of our drivers.

When I am not thinking about work, I am normally with my family. I consider myself extremely fortunate to live next to the New Forest and the Coast; and it is here at the weekends, I can relax, and enjoy the calm.

My wife and I are both Christians, and we believe in all our dealings with people, that we should be honest and clear. A little faith is often needed when the plans are being frustrated!

Although I don’t actually own a boat, I have my Day Skipper and Yacht Master Theory certificates. I think boating is the best thing to do on a sunny day, and whenever I get the opportunity to either sail or cruise, I grab it with both hands!

Gillie Houghton

Working in a small team is fun and sometimes a challenge because every day is different. My role is the person behind the scenes keeping all the paperwork flowing, whether that means doing the Sage accounts, paying suppliers, checking on our driver tachograph hours, sorting out the technology, updating the website or speaking to you our client to arrange payments.

I also very occasionally drive a lorry to keep my hand in, enjoy gardening, keeping fit, walking our toy poodle, spending time with our two lovely daughters, attending church and more recently qualifying as a therapist/counsellor. I also love spending time on the water whenever I can on either a motor boat or sail boat. Life is full but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

John Steele

I have been transporting boats for the last 10 years and have been to some very interesting places and marinas. The most challenging boat I have ever moved was a Squadron 60.

Before moving boats I worked in the transport of mobile homes and in the family haulage company delivering across mainland Europe.

I also enjoy being part of the small team here. We all get on well and manage to have some fun along the way. People tell me I have a wicked sense of humour but I do take what I do very seriously and I will be happy to help you in any way I can.

I enjoy spending my spare time relaxing with my family and doing diy around the house (well shall I say I do diy but not sure I enjoy it!).

Joe Robinson

Having worked in transport training for ten years, teaching driving across all licence categories - I fancied the challenge of moving things a little bit less ordinary. So far I've covered all of the UK, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Spain and Majorca... (still Spain). Sweden is most definitely my favourite of them all! My greatest challenge so far has been overcoming my overwhelming dislike of mornings.

When I'm not at work, you'll either find me wiring something, eating a cheeseburger, sound engineering, doing video production or telling awful jokes (which people seem to enjoy).

I really enjoy the challenge of loading and transporting boats of all shapes and sizes, and seeing them delivered at their new home safely and on time.
